René Lerer, M.D.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Magellan Health Services

René Lerer, M.D., is chairman and chief executive officer of Magellan Health Services, one of the country's leading specialty health care management organizations, leveraging clinical excellence, innovation and operational expertise to manage behavioral health, radiology, specialty pharmaceuticals and Medicaid benefits.  With revenue of nearly $3 billion in 2010, Magellan is a market leader with broad and deep experience.  The company's customers include health plans, employers and government agencies, serving approximately 31.2 million members in its behavioral health business, 16.3 million in its radiology benefits management segment, and 5.5 million members in its medical pharmacy management product.  The Company's Medicaid Administration segment serves 25 states and the District of Columbia.

As chairman and CEO, Dr. Lerer is responsible for Magellan's strategic direction and overall growth.  Joining the company in 2002, he previously served as president and chief operating officer with responsibility for all operations, including care management centers, and many of the company's enterprise-wide functions, including clinical, product development, information technology, human resources and marketing and communications. During his tenure, he has more than doubled the company's value and diversified Magellan's portfolio of businesses.

Dr. Lerer has more than 30 years of health care experience. Prior to joining Magellan, he was co-founder and president of Internet HealthCare Group, a health care technology venture fund. Earlier in his career he served as chief operating officer of Prudential Healthcare nationally and as president of the Travelers Health Network. He also served as senior vice president of operations, pharmacy and disease management with Value Health, Inc., a New York Stock Exchange-listed specialty managed care organization.

Currently, he serves on the board of directors for the Internet HealthCare Group.

Deeply committed to community issues, particularly related to health care, mental health and education, Dr. Lerer serves as the corporate executive sponsor of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (Connecticut chapter). He also leads an effort by the health care industry to employ and support America's wounded warriors, Hero Health Hire, which currently consists of 25 companies, associations and other health care entities collectively employing more than 300,000 people. 

In July 2011, Dr. Lerer was appointed to the Board of Regents for Higher Education by Gov. Dannel Malloy of Connecticut.

He holds a bachelor's degree in Psychobiology from Oberlin College and a doctor of medicine degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.  He is board-certified in internal medicine.

Karen S. Rohan

President, Magellan Health Services

Karen S. Rohan is president of Magellan Health Services, one of the country's leading specialty health care management organizations, leveraging clinical excellence, innovation and operational expertise to manage behavioral health, radiology, specialty pharmaceuticals and public sector pharmacy benefits programs. With revenue of nearly $3 billion in 2010, Magellan is a market leader with broad and deep experience.  The company's customers include health plans, employers and government agencies, serving approximately 31.2 million members in its behavioral health business, 16.3 million members in its radiology benefits management segment, and 5.5 million members in its medical pharmacy management product. 

Joining the company as president in 2009, Ms. Rohan is responsible for the development and operational execution of the company's business strategy.  She has profit and loss responsibility for all of Magellan's business units.

Ms. Rohan has more than 18 years of experience in the health care industry and was most recently president of the Group Disability, Dental and Vision Care businesses of CIGNA Corporation. The role was the culmination of a career with CIGNA that included a number of positions with increasing responsibilities in business strategy, operations and finance, including positions as president of the company's specialty businesses, which include behavioral health and pharmacy, chief underwriting officer for its health care business, and vice president and business financial officer for health care field operations.

Ms. Rohan began her career with Ernst & Young as a certified public accountant.

Named on the Business Insurance Women to Watch List, Ms. Rohan is a strong advocate for women in leadership and has spoken publicly and in interviews about her experience. In 2011, she co-chaired the Health Care and Pharmaceutical Task Force for the Wall Street Journal Women in the Economy Conference. With a personal and professional commitment to health and wellness, Ms. Rohan is a running enthusiast who has participated in numerous events including the Falmouth Road Race in Falmouth, MA.

She holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Boston College and an M.B.A. from Boston University.

Jonathan N. Rubin

Chief Financial Officer

As chief financial officer, Jonathan N. Rubin is responsible for all of Magellan's financial matters, including strategy, reporting and support of operations.

Jon has more than 20 years of corporate and business line experience in managed health care. His background includes leadership of broad financial functions, actuarial services, pricing and underwriting, and medical economics. He also has played significant roles in strategy development and mergers and acquisitions, and supported investor relations activities through interactions with the financial community.

Prior to joining Magellan, Jon held a variety of roles at CIGNA Corporation, including serving as chief financial officer for its largest operating division, CIGNA Healthcare, which comprises its core medical and specialty health businesses.

Jon graduated magna cum laude from the University of Rochester with bachelor's degrees in economics and mathematics. He is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the board of directors for the American School for the Deaf. 

Gary D. Anderson

Chief Information Officer

As chief information officer, Gary D. Anderson is responsible for leading the company's behavioral health operations, information technology strategy and data management efforts. Previously, Gary served as senior vice president for Magellan's application development and system migration efforts.

Gary has more than 20 years of experience in engineering and computer technology, including more than 15 years in the health care information technology arena. Prior to joining Magellan, Gary served as chief systems architect for Kirk-Van Orsdel Health Care where he was responsible for the development of all systems strategies and implementations. He also served as an engineer for Emerson Electric's defense group where he was instrumental in the design and development of automated testing equipment and software for the FA/18 and F15 fighter aircraft and the C130 terrain avoidance systems.

Gary holds a degree in computer science and electrical engineering from the University of Missouri.

Tina Blasi

Chief Executive Officer, National Imaging Associates

As chief executive officer of National Imaging Associates (NIA), Tina Blasi is responsible for day-to-day management and strategic direction of Magellan's radiology business segment. She brings an entrepreneurial background and expertise in growing world-class emerging-industry businesses to Magellan.

Prior to joining Magellan, Tina co-founded and served as chief operating officer of Lumenos, a leading consumer-directed health plan that was acquired by WellPoint in 2005. At Lumenos, both before its acquisition by WellPoint and afterward, she was responsible for all financial, technological, operational, and client-centered aspects of the company, including new product development, account management, claims processing, customer service, training, quality management, human resources and management of network and partner relationships.

Previously, Tina served as chief operating officer for Value Behavioral Health. She managed operations, finance, sales, account management, human resources, information technology, business implementation and workplace services for 12 regional business units, 31 staff model Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offices and 1,400 employees servicing 850 clients with 18 million members. During her tenure at Value Behavioral Health, Tina also served as executive vice president for eastern/northeastern operations, chief operating officer/IBM unit and vice president for network operations and provider relations.

Prior to her roles at Value Behavioral Health, Tina served as vice president, health services at Jurgovan & Blair, Inc. and founded and operated Mid-Valley Home Health Services (a Medicare-certified home health agency).

Tina holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business education from Bloomsburg State College, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.

David W. Carter

Chief Communications Officer

David W. Carter is chief communications officer for Magellan Health Services, and leads external and internal corporate communications, executive communications, media relations, creative services and corporate social responsibility. 

Prior to joining Magellan, David spent a decade at Aetna, one of the nation's leading diversified health care benefits companies, serving most recently as vice president of corporate communications, and was responsible for media relations, including financial and crisis communications, public affairs, employee and executive communications, creative services and the Aetna Customer Center, an award-winning and innovative executive briefing center.  

David has significant experience in Washington, DC, where he served in a number of senior communications and public affairs roles.  In November 1996, he was appointed by former President Bill Clinton to serve as vice president for the Office of Communications for the Export-Import Bank of the United States.  Before joining the Clinton Administration, he was responsible for client service activities and the daily management of The Wexler Group, a government relations and public affairs firm, representing client interests before Congress and the Executive Branch.  He also served as staff associate on the Committee on Appropriations in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1982 until 1989 for former U.S. Rep. Bernard J. Dwyer (D-NJ).

David holds a bachelor's degree in government from Franklin and Marshall College.

He is the incoming president of the board of directors of the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, CT, a member of the school board of St. Mary's School in Simsbury, CT., and an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 175 also in Simsbury.

Edward J. Christie

Chief Operations Finance Officer

As chief operations finance officer, Edward J. Christie is responsible for the financial affairs covering all of the company's lines of business - behavioral health (encompassing health plan, employer and public sector), radiology, specialty pharmacy and Medicaid administration - as well as the supporting service operations.  Ed and his team also provide financial support and leadership for strategic planning across the enterprise.

Since joining the company in 1995, Ed has served in a variety of roles including general manager of a regional business unit, mergers and acquisitions and underwriting.  Immediately prior to assuming his current position, he held the role of senior vice president of financial operations for the behavioral health business.

Ed has nearly 25 years of progressive financial and operational experience, primarily in the insurance and health services industries.  Prior to joining Magellan, he spent nine years with the accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche in both its auditing and consulting practices.

He holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Villanova University and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Keith Dixon

President, Behavioral Health

As president of Magellan's behavioral health business unit, Keith Dixon is responsible for leading Magellan's behavioral health businesses, including the public sector and commercial behavioral health business segments.

Prior to joining Magellan, Keith served as an executive of CIGNA Corporation, a global provider of employee benefits and related services. His specific assignments at CIGNA involved the presidencies of two major subsidiaries: CIGNA Behavioral Health (1997-2006) and CIGNA Health Solutions (2006-2010).

Prior to his work at CIGNA, he served as president of United Behavioral Health, a subsidiary of United Health Group. He is a well-known and respected leader in the fields of behavioral health management, corporate health and wellness, and disease management.

Keith received his Ph.D. in psychology from The Union Graduate School, a master's degree from the University of St. Thomas and his bachelor's degree from The University of Minnesota.  He was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship to study the impact of science, technology and health services in rural India through the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics in Poona, India.

Daniel N. Gregoire

General Counsel

As general counsel, Daniel N. Gregoire is responsible for oversight of all legal affairs pertaining to Magellan Health Services. His duties include negotiation of mergers and acquisitions, management of legal department resources, negotiation and drafting of provider contracts, customer contracts and documents related to corporate transactions, employment contracts and independent contractor agreements. He is responsible for regulatory and legal compliance, corporate compliance program, day-to-day legal counseling on general business activities and retaining and overseeing outside legal counsel.

Dan was formerly executive vice president, general counsel and secretary of Oxford Health Plans, LLC. While at Oxford, he was responsible for all of the health plan's legal affairs including SEC reporting, governance, compliance and litigation, as well as advice to senior management and the board of directors.

Prior to joining Oxford, Dan was an attorney and partner with Sheehan, Phinney, Bass and Green P.A., a Manchester, New Hampshire-based law firm. During his nearly 20-year tenure with the firm, he practiced in the areas of corporate and securities law with an emphasis on the health care industry.

Dan holds a juris doctorate and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the American Health Lawyers Association.

Anthony M. Kotin, M.D.

Chief Medical Officer

As chief medical officer, Anthony M. Kotin is responsible for the overall clinical department for the company, focusing on both our core products as well as our expanded new products. Tony and his team develop and oversee the implementation of medical management policies and procedures and evaluate the current health care industry trends to assess future market needs and assist Magellan in strengthening its position as a market leader.

Prior to joining the company, Tony served as the national strategy leader for the health and group practice at Mercer Human Resource Consulting. Additionally, Tony was responsible for the group's national marketing strategy, major client sales and product development. He also supported the specialty practitioner groups and managed the practice Intranet site and survey units.

Prior to joining Mercer, Tony served as national chief medical officer for Prudential Healthcare, Inc. His background also includes serving as the national practice leader for clinical operations and analysis in the integrated health care consulting practice of Towers Perrin. A board certified internist, Tony holds a medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago and a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois.

Caskie Lewis-Clapper

Chief Human Resources Officer

As chief human resources officer, Caskie Lewis-Clapper is responsible for ensuring that human resource systems, functions and services are aligned to attract, engage and develop the talent necessary for Magellan to meet evolving business needs.

With more than 18 years of experience in the human resources and organizational development field, Caskie provides strategic oversight for the company's staffing, compensation and benefits, HRIS, payroll, employee relations, organizational development and learning functions that support more than 4,600 Magellan employees across the United States.

Prior to joining Magellan, Caskie served as senior director for human resources operations for Helix Health (Medstar), a Baltimore, Maryland-based health care system with more than 10,500 employees. At Helix, Caskie held a variety of senior leadership positions, including director of human resources and director of training and organizational development. Prior to joining Helix, Caskie was a consultant with General Physics Corporation, providing training and performance improvement consulting services, and conducting human performance improvement research.

She is a published author of articles on team building and human performance improvement. Caskie received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maine and her master's degree in organizational development from Johns Hopkins University. She is a member of the Human Resource Planning Society and is an alumna of the Johns Hopkins Fellows in Change Management program. 

Kim Mageau

President, Magellan Pharmacy Solutions

As president of Magellan Pharmacy Solutions, Kim Mageau is responsible for overall pharmacy strategy and the day-to-day operations of Magellan's pharmacy business serving both the commercial sector through specialty and medical pharmacy solutions and the public sector through its Medicaid pharmacy solutions.  Kim is also responsible for building broader total drug management solutions leveraging our pharmacy business solutions today.  She is a business builder with experience in leading high growth enterprises.  Prior to this new role, Kim was the senior vice president of operations for drug benefit management here at Magellan.

Prior to joining Magellan, Kim was the interim president and CEO of Prime Therapeutics, a pharmacy benefit management company.  Previous roles at Prime Therapeutics included chief operating officer and chief financial officer.  Before that, she held multiple leadership roles in finance and operations in the financial services and technology industries.

Personally committed to community issues involving chronic illness and critical care management, Kim serves on the board of directors, and chair of the finance committee, for Community Health Charities, a non-profit alliance of leading health care and research organizations.  She is also a board member of Ronald McDonald House Charities.  She is  a former board member of Prime Therapeutics and the Pharmacy Care Management Association.

Kim holds a juris doctorate degree from William College of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree from Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota.

Ramon Soto

Chief Marketing Officer

As chief marketing officer for Magellan Health Services, Ramon Soto leads the enterprise marketing department, which includes sales operations, research, proposals, marketing strategy and marketing communications. His responsibilities include strategic planning, market differentiation, sales penetration, and customer acquisition and retention.

Ramon is an accomplished health care marketing leader with deep business-to-business and health care marketing expertise.  He previously served as Aetna's senior vice president of marketing strategy and communications for Aetna's business-to-business, regional and global businesses, representing $32 billion in enterprise revenue.

Ramon earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the Yale School of Management, a bachelor's degree in political science from the State University of New York at Binghamton, and is Six Sigma certified.
